Academic Honesty

To support the university’s mission and uphold high ethical standards, all students, faculty, and staff are expected to adhere to the principles of academic honesty. Academic dishonesty is considered a serious breach of ethical conduct and may result in disciplinary action.

Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to:

  • Cheating (unauthorized assistance on assignments, exams, or academic work)
  • Plagiarism (using another person’s work, ideas, or words without proper attribution)
  • Fabrication or falsification of information or data
  • Unauthorized collaboration or submission of the same work for multiple courses without permission

The faculty and administration of Texas A&M University-Victoria consider academic dishonesty a significant violation of university standards. Policies and procedures governing academic honesty, including definitions, processes, and potential sanctions, are outlined in the Academic Honesty policy in the Student Handbook. These procedures are designed to ensure fairness to all parties involved, including the student, faculty, and the university.

If a grade of “W” is received prior to a finding of academic dishonesty, the student remains subject to the Academic Honesty policy, which may include the assignment of a grade of “F” to replace the “W”.
